Thomas Earnshaw Beagle Watch Review

Thomas Earnshaw is a renowned watchmaker in the horology industry.

Born in 1748 he dedicated his life to watchmaking and was responsible for greatly improving the chronometers of his time and even developed complicated time pieces that outperformed many other chronometers of its time.

The company specializes in making watches that celebrate the sophistication of timeless designs that pay homage the too early 1900s to 1800s eras.

The watch designs are elegant and surprisingly inexpensive.

Their watches maintain a classic look with a modern, almost steampunk twist without sacrificing legibility and elegance and, you will find out why you may want to at A Thomas Earnshaw watch to your collection as I did.

The Beagle Automatic Open Heart

The Beagle is the newest addition to the Thomas Earnshaw Swiss Automatic collection that will surely capture the attention of collectors who love timepieces with an open heart dial design.

The circular cutaway at the 12 o’clock position gives you a good view of the ‘heartbeat’ of the watch’s 26 jewel Selita Swiss movement, thus the ‘open heart’ moniker given to the timepiece.

You’ll be certainly mesmerized like I was by the balance wheel and the movement beating away as this watch comes to life after a good wind-up.

The Thomas Earnshaw Beagle measures 42mm in diameter; not too small but also not too large.

It’s the typical size of modern watches you see today.

It’s only 12mm thick, and makes a sleek enough that will fit perfectly under the cuff.

It’s made of high-grade stainless steel and a watch face is covered by a scratch-resistant sapphire glass.

You have the option to choose between a black and a silver-white dial color.

It also has an exhibition case back for added sophistication to the design of the timepiece.

The genuine leather strap is comfortable to the wrist and snuggly fits in place with the help of an adjustable strap buckle for thin and large wrists alike.

Watches with ‘open heart’ designs usually have weak water resistance properties.

The Beagle, however, has a 50m water resistance rating which is more than enough to reassure you that it won’t malfunction if you accidentally submerge it in water or get it wet and its an indication that this piece is built to last.

Which leads me onto my next fact, If ever the watch fails, you don’t have to worry because Thomas Earnshaw is very generous with its warranty service.

They provide a 2-year international warranty to all their products including the Beagle.

The watch is packaged in a beautiful rosewood box that compliments the expectations of elegance that the watch has.

Design and Movement

The subtly patterned dial has an overlay of a smaller circular tile that contains impeccably finished Roman numeral hour markers.

Numbering starts from 2 to 10, with the 11 to 1 o’clock position omitted to give way to the ‘open heart’ feature of the watch.

The dial color is available in 4 different variants with varying color combinations which can be seen on their website here.

Another thing that is clear on the Beagle is the subtle use of the logo throughout the piece.

I especially love the Earnshaw logo on the end of the second hand, its used similarly with other high quality brands like Breitling.

The hands come in different colors to provide a good contrast with the dial’s hue.

Colors vary from blue, silver, or gold.

Regardless of the color of the hands, they all provide great legibility and they help give the watch face a clean look.

The Beagle is equipped with a Swiss Sellita automatic movement with hacking which is similar to the quality of ETA movements.

The TE Beagle has a 2 position push-pull crown for easy time setting capabilities.

The Wearing Experience

I have not stopped wearing the watch since I got it and it’s because of 2 main things.

It easily goes with everything I wear and, I love the look of this watch.

Since wearing it around, instead of flicking through my phone which is what I would normally do, I find myself gazing at the watch and its mesmerizing beauty.

It took me some time getting used to as the open heart design can easily throw you off the time if you look at it quickly enough.

However, ever since wearing its been easier to tell the time as I get more use to it.

The Unboxing Experience

As you would probably expect if you have made it this far into my review, the Thomas Earnshaw unboxing experience doesn’t fall short with their presentation in creating a special moment between the watch and the user.

You get that similar luxury experience as you would with a much more expensive watch, like the quality packaging, box, papers.

The whole ensemble that sings together in harmony.

Here are some of the strengths and weaknesses of the Beagle Open Heart watch:

Pros

  • Elegant and timeless design
  • A wide array of color variants to choose from
  • The package comes in a luxurious watch box
  • Generous warranty coverage and validity for up to 2 years
  • Good water resistance rating at 50m

Cons

  • I dont have any

Conclusion

The Beagle is priced at $1,575 per piece.

Considering its quality, design, and functionality, it’s one of the best classic  ‘open heart’ time pieces I’ve had the pleasure to get my hands on.

If you want to add a one-of-a-kind watch that has true elegance and attention to detail and provides a glimpse into the amazing beating swiss movement, then this will surely make your heart skip a beat like it did for me.
